Venus of Milo
"Venus"
Venus is a beautiful 16hh bay mare. She was the University's first race horse and raced as a 4 and 5 year old (in 1999 and 2000). She earned just over $19,000 on the track with a lifetime mark of 2:01.0. She was a pacer on the track but has become an extremely successful pleasure riding horse. She started her training under saddle in 2000 and proved to be just as talented and beautiful under saddle as she was on the track. She excelled at the walk, trot, and canter to going over fences. She was a star in the show ring and on the Drill Team. Venus was sold in 2005 to become a therapeutic riding horse. In 2009 she was sold again and is now owned by the coordinator of UMaine's equine program! Venus now lives in Bangor at Wild Ivy Farm and is showing dressage and performing on the barn's drill team. Venus continues to excel in the show ring and was even the 2-gait Champion at the DownEast Horse Congress in 2012.
